Resolute FY 2016 sales drop 3 per cent year-over-year
(Montreal, Canada, Feb. 14, 2017) Resolute Forest Products Inc. reported a net loss for the quarter ended December 31, 2016, of $45 million, compared to a GAAP net loss of $214 million in the same period in 2015. Sales were $889 million in the 4Q 2016, essentially unchanged from the 4Q 2015.

Smurfit Kappa Expands its Bag-in-Box Business in Europe with Acquisition of Litbag
(Dublin, Ireland, Feb. 14, 2017) Smurfit Kappa announces an agreement to purchase the company Litbag, in order to reinforce its position in Southern Europe.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

(Helsinki, Feb. 15, 2017) Valmet has received an order for an online condition monitoring system from Anhui Shanyin Paper Industry Co., Ltd. in Ma’anshan, Anhui province, China. Södra to Increase Market Price for Softwood Pulp in Europe
(Sweden, Feb. 10, 2017) Södra announced that it will increase its market price for NBSK (Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft) in Europe to US$840 per tonne, for all new business.
“Current market conditions are very favorable and demand is solid. We closed January business with prices on the rise amid consensus from our customers,” said Magnus Björkman, VP Sales and Marketing, Södra Cell.

Avery Dennison to acquire Yongle Tape Company Ltd.

Norske Skog reports 4Q net loss of NOK 124 million
(Norway, Feb. 09, 2017) Norske Skog’s gross operating earnings (GOE) was NOK 1 049 million ($126 million) in 2016. A high capacity utilisation and good operating performance throughout 2016 resulted in the best annual gross operating earnings since 2012. Mondi to launch heavy-duty corrugated cardboard production in Poland; expanded product range
(London, Jan. 14, 2017) Mondi Group has unveiled plans to launch production of heavy-duty corrugated cardboard at its factory in Piaski, in Poland’s western part.
To carry out its planned investment, Mondi has installed new machinery at the plant. The project will increase the factory’s output capacity to about 200 million square metres per year, reports local news site Rynekpapierniczy.pl.

Andritz to supply fiberline upgrade to Altri Celbi
(Graz, Austria, Feb. 09, 2017) Andritz has been selected to upgrade the brown stock washing process in the fiberline at the Altri Group’s Celbi mill in Portugal. Start-up is scheduled for autumn 2017. Swedish Processum to lead major nanocellulose project; will develop new applications on a large scale
(Stockholm, Sweden, Feb. 09, 2017) Processum announced the start of an SEK 8 million project that will focus on the development and production of crystalline nanocellulose (CNC).
