Europapier closed acquisition of Paperlinx merchant business
(Vienna, Austria, Dec. 23, 2016) Europapier International AG, a subsidiary of Heinzel Group, has closed the acquisition of the local merchant businesses of PaperlinX Group in Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, and Serbia as announced in July, 2012. In the course of this transaction, Europapier International AG has taken over all of the shares in Budapest Papir Kft., Bratislavska Papierenska Spolocnost s.r.o., Alpe Papir Trgovina na debelo d.o.o., Adria Papir d.o.o., and Dunav Papir d.o.o., as of November 1st, 2012.

North American Wood Fiber Prices Have Trended Downward for Most of 2015 and 2016
(Seattle, USA, Dec. 22, 2016) Prices for wood fiber consumed by the pulp industry in North America have fallen over the past year in all regions of the continent with the exception of the US South, reports the North American Wood Fiber Review (NAWFR). Schumacher Packaging doubles capacity at Greven factory

Ence buys Endesa’s Enemansa, La Loma biomass power plants
(Barcelona, Spain, Dec. 22, 2016) Ence – Energía y Celulosa has concluded an agreement to purchase Endesa’s stake in the renewable energy generation plants with biomass of Enemasa (Ciudad Real) and La Loma (Jaén), in which the company held 68.4% and 64.1%, respectively. Valmet to supply key technology to Sun Paper’s new dissolving pulp mill in Laos
(Helsinki, Dec. 19, 2016) Valmet will deliver key technology for a new green field dissolving pulp mill to Sun Paper’s new investment in Laos.
The mill site, Muang Phin, is located in the southern province of Savanakhet. The target is to start pulp production during the 2Q 2018. The value of the order is around Euro 20 million.

SCA to acquire medical solutions major BSN medical for EUR 2.74 billion
(Stockholm, Sweden, Dec. 20, 2016) Tissue and personal care products manufacturer SCA has entered into an agreement to acquire BSN medical, a leading medical solutions company, from the private equity group EQT. BSN medical develops, manufactures, markets and sells products within wound care, compression therapy and orthopaedics.

Poland’s Abek launches tissue paper plant
(Poland, Dec. 20, 2016) Polish tissue paper maker Abek sp. z o.o. has launched a new production facility in Drawsko Pomor-skie, in Poland’s Western Pomerania region.
The investment is worth more than PLN 14.2 million (€3.2 million), of which close to PLN 6.4 million (€1.4 million) was provided by the European Union, according to the information obtained by local news site Dsi.net.pl. Abek’s allocation from the EU covered more than 45% of the investment.

New-Indy to Acquire Container Service Corporation in Georgia
(USA, Dec. 20, 2016) New-Indy JV Corp. has entered into an agreement to acquire Container Service Corporation (CSC), a corrugated box plant headquartered in Ringgold, Georgia.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

U.S. Containerboard Production in November Up 3.8 Percent
(Washington DC, USA, Dec. 20, 2016) The American Forest & Paper Association released its November 2016 U.S. Containerboard Statistics Report which said containerboard production was 3.8 percent higher compared to November 2015. The month-over-month average daily production compared to October 2016 was 3 percent higher.
The containerboard operating rate for November increased to 96.4 percent, while the year-to-date operating rate was 0.5 percent lower compared to year-to-date 2015. (Source: press release)
