Total U.S. Boxboard Production Increased 1.2 Percent in November 2016
(Washington DC, USA, Dec. 20, 2016) The American Forest & Paper Association has released its November 2016 U.S. Paperboard Report. Total boxboard production increased 1.2 percent when compared to November 2015 and increased 1.7 percent from last month.
Unbleached Kraft Boxboard production decreased over the same month as last year but increased compared to last month.
Total Solid Bleached Boxboard & Liner production increased when compared to November 2015 and increased compared to last month.

Australian packaging solutions firm Orora to acquire The Register Print Group
(Hawthron, Vic., Australia, Dec. 16, 2016) Orora Limited has signed a definitive agreement to acquire The Register Print Group for $44 million (approximately A$59 million). The acquisition represents a multiple of 5.8 times last 12 months EBITDA. In addition, Orora has agreed to reimburse the vendors for recent growth capital investments totalling $3 million. Valmet to Perform Capacity Increase Project for Matías Gomá Tomás’ Board Mill
(La Riba, Catalonia, Spain, Dec. 14, 2016) Valmet has received an order for a board machine capacity increase upgrade and a three year paper machine clothing agreement from Matías Gomá Tomás S.A.'s board mill in La Riba, Catalonia, Spain.

Japan Business Federation admits APP Japan as member
(Tokyo, December 14, 2016) Asia Pulp and Paper recently announced that earlier this year, the Japan Business Federation, also known as Keidanren, accepted APP Japan as its first member from Indonesia. APP Japan currently commands a 25% market share and is fourth on the list of producers of household paper products, such as tissue, and has annual sales exceeding US$800 million.

Romanian tissue paper maker expands sales by 30%
(Bucharest, Dec. 13, 2016) Romania’s tissue paper producer Pehart Tec raised its sales by 30% this year to some €100 million, according to senior company representatives.
“We managed to increase our revenues … in particular as a result of the expansion of our production capacity, and the launching of a new paper machine,” Ioan Tecar, the founder of Pehart Tec, told local business daily Ziarul Financiar.

PPC completes $5.8 million expansion project
(Kaukauna, WI., USA, Dec. 14, 2016) Precision Paper Converters (PPC) announced the completion of a $5.8 million expansion of its facial tissue converting facility in Kaukauna, Wisconsin and the installation of a new facial tissue interfolder and new Langen cartoner.

Solvay to divest its cellulose acetate tow business
(Switzerland, Dec. 14, 2016) Solvay has reached an agreement to sell its cellulose acetate tow business, Acetow, to private equity funds managed by Blackstone.
“The divestment of Acetow is another significant step in Solvay’s transformation towards a multi-specialty chemical group with a higher growth profile,” said Jean-Pierre Clamadieu, CEO of Solvay.

WRI estimates global demand for lumber to increase 13.6 per cent; in contrast to general world trade
