U.S. Kraft Paper Shipments in August Up 6.6 Percent

(Washington DC, USA, Sept. 16, 2016) The American Forest & Paper Association released its August 2016 Kraft Paper Report, which said total Kraft paper shipments were 151.5 thousand short tons, 6.6 percent higher compared to August of last year. Bleached Kraft paper shipments increased from 6.7 thousand short tons in July to 9.5 while unbleached Kraft paper increased from 126.3 to 142.1 thousand short tons. U.S. Containerboard Production in August Up Slightly

(Washington DC, USA, Sept. 19, 2016) The American Forest & Paper Association released its August 2016 U.S. Containerboard Statistics Report, which said containerboard production was 0.2 percent higher compared to August 2015. The month-over-month average daily production compared to July 2016 was 2 percent higher. The containerboard operating rate for August increased to 96.4 percent while the year-to-date operating rate of 94.7 percent was 1.5 percentage points lower compared to year-to-date 2015. Softwood lumber prices have trended upward during the first six months of 2016 because of higher demand and a weaker dollar

(Seattle, 18 September 2016) An excerpt from the newly released market report Wood Resource Quarterly Global Lumber Trade Demand for softwood lumber has gone up in many markets around the world in 2016, resulting in a substantial increase in global lumber trade. Romanian cardboard producer expands sales, workforce

(Bucharest, Romania, Sept. 19, 2016) Romanian cardboard maker Rondocarton has reported increased sales for the first half of this year, and hired 15 new employees as part of its ongoing project to raise the output capacity of its plants in Cluj and Târgovişte, both in Romania. Link: An Indian university created paper trays coated with silver nanoparticles that extend the shelf life of eggs

(Chennai, India, August 2016) Egg shells get contaminated with bacteria when they come in contact with bird droppings at poultry farms. By coating paper trays with a mixture of silver nanoparticles and binders, scientists at the Chennai-based Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) have been able to increase the shelf life of eggs by at least 14 days. This was possible by using silver nanoparticle-coated paper trays that killed both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria found on egg shells. Read More...

(London, 18 September 2016) Plastic crockery and cutlery is to be banned in France unless it is made from biologically sourced materials. The law comes into force in 2020. Stora Enso Plans Consolidation of Corrugated Packaging Production in Finland

(Helsinki, Finland, Sept. 15, 2016) Stora Enso announced plans to consolidate manufacturing of corrugated packaging in Finland to its Lahti plant. The objective is to improve profitability and competitiveness by creating a centre of excellence for corrugated packaging in Lahti.
