Pulp price hikes planned for European markets in January
(Gernsbach, Germany, 10 Jan 2017) Manufacturers of northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) have informed their European customers of plans to raise their prices for NBSK pulp to $820/metr.t with effect from 1 January, EUWID reported this week.
As per EUWID, bleached eucalyptus kraft (BEK) pulp are also trying to lift their prices on the market in Europe. In December, several manufacturers have announced a price hike for BEK pulp, effective 1 January.

Caraustar to Increase Price on All Uncoated Recycled Paperboard Grades
(USA, Jan. 10, 2017) Caraustar Industries announced a price increase of $60 per ton on all uncoated recycled paperboard grades. The increase will be effective starting with shipments on February 10, 2017.
Caraustar said the increase is in response to increased raw materials and other costs during 2016, including the various grades of recycled fiber used in producing uncoated recycled paperboard.

Sonoco implementing price increase for all uncoated recycled paperboard products
(USA, Jan. 12, 2017) Sonoco announced it is implementing a $60 per ton price increase for all grades of uncoated recycled paperboard (URB) in the United States and Canada.
Sonoco previously announced a URB price increase of $40 to $60 per ton in October 2016, and the company is revising the increase for all grades to $60 per ton, effective with shipments beginning February 6, 2017.

(New Delhi, India, January 12, 2017) Grappling with high cost of raw materials, the domestic paper industry today urged the government to immediately curb cheaper imports from ASEAN countries by imposing 10-15 per cent safeguard duty.
The industry also demanded that the government should impose 10 per cent special additional customs duty on overseas purchase of paper and paperboard.

Papyrus to acquire Procurator
(Stockholm, Sweden, Jan. 10, 2017) Papyrus AB has agreed to acquire 100% of the shares of Procurator AB from RoosGruppen AB.
The transaction, which is subject to approval by the Swedish Competition Authority, is expected to be completed in the coming months.
As a result of the transaction, RoosGruppen AB will become a shareholder in Papyrus together with private equity groups Altor Fund II and Triton Fund II. The purchase price has not been disclosed.

Munksjö’s and Ahlstrom’s Extraordinary General Meetings Result in Approval of Merger
(Helsinki, January 11, 2017) Extraordinary General Meetings (EGM) were held today in Helsinki by both Munksjö Oyj and Ahlstrom Corporation regarding approval of the combination of the two companies. The EGMs agreed to approve the combination of Munksjö’s and Ahlstrom’s business operations through a statutory absorption merger of Ahlstrom into Munksjö pursuant to the Finnish Companies Act and approve the merger plan.
The completion of the combination is subject to, among other things, merger control approvals from relevant competition authorities.

(New York, Jan 11) Brazilian pulp and paper company Fibria dropped controversial language on a 10-year Green bond on Wednesday amid strong investor pushback, sources told IFR.
Fibria was one of several companies this week to drop the aggressive terms, which make it easier for borrowers to breach covenants without offering investors compensation.
