Link: France bans the use of plastic crockery and cutlery to aid battle against climate change
(London, 18 September 2016) Plastic crockery and cutlery is to be banned in France unless it is made from biologically sourced materials.
The law comes into force in 2020. It is part of a French environmental initiative called the Energy Transition for Green Growth, part of a package aimed at tackling climate change.

Stora Enso Plans Consolidation of Corrugated Packaging Production in Finland
(Helsinki, Finland, Sept. 15, 2016) Stora Enso announced plans to consolidate manufacturing of corrugated packaging in Finland to its Lahti plant. The objective is to improve profitability and competitiveness by creating a centre of excellence for corrugated packaging in Lahti.

The largest TT SYD ever installed in Europe successfully started up
(Italy, Sept. 16, 2016) The biggest European Steel Yankee Dryer for tissue production, a Toscotec TT SYD-18FT (5600mm wide), has been successfully started up at WEPA Cassino mill in Italy. The PM3 rebuilding project was commissioned to Toscotec, WEPA’s long-term partner, continuing the process of investments in order to upgrade the plant and to achieve the best available technology in tissue making.

VTT Researchers Use Nature’s Own Solvents for Preparation of Pure Lignin
(Helsinki, Finland, Sept. 15, 2016) Lignin can now be efficiently and cost-effectively separated from sawdust, by using eutectic solvents. VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has developed solvents using which 50% of the lignin from wood can be extracted in a pure form that retains its natural chemical structure during processing. Using eutectic solvents, it may be possible to produce materials for use in the forest, food processing, pharmaceutical, packaging and mining industries in the future.

Volga to invest in ATMP line
(Graz, Austria, Sept. 16, 2016) Andritz has received an order from JSC Volga in Balakhna, Nizhegorodskaya oblast, Russia, to deliver a complete state-of-the-art ATMP (Advanced Thermo-mechanical Pulp) line, which will process 100% spruce for the production of soft wood pulp. Borregaard to invest in its bioethanol plant in Norway
(Norway, Sept. 15, 2016) Borregaard is one of 14 European companies participating in a demonstration project for the conversion of biomass from wood to value-added chemicals. The project has received funding of Euro 9.9 million (NOK 92 million) from BBI, which is a programme under EU Horizon 2020. NOK 8.5 million goes to Borregaard. The project formally starts on September 1 and will run for three years.

Dunapack Packaging to acquire the corrugated business of Camis Ambalaj Sanayi in Turkey
