Canada: Catalyst permanently shuts down paper machine No. 9 at Powell River
(Canada, Aug. 1, 2016) Catalyst Paper on July 29 announced that it has permanently shut down Paper Machine No. 9 at the Powell River mill. Paper Machine No. 9 has been indefinitely curtailed since Dec. 2014.
The No. 9 machine produced specialty paper grades.
The Powell River Mill, located on the mainland coast of British Columbia, Canada, is a leading producer of high-quality uncoated mechanical specialty papers and has the capacity to produce 350,000 tonnes per year.
Catalyst noted that it continues to focus on revitalizing the Powell River mill for the future.
With five mills across North America, Catalyst has annual production capacity of 2.3 million tonnes.
